THEE MEETING BETWEEN OLADE AND MEER LAID THE FOUNDATIONS FOR MUTUAL COOPERATION ON ENERGY ISSUES FOR ECUADOR AND THE REGION

On Monday, March 20, the Executive Secretary of OLADE Mr. Alfonso Blanco Bonilla received the visit of the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Ecuador, Mr. Medardo Cadena.
In the first instance, officials established their willingness to work together to strengthen communication channels on issues of energy cooperation between the two agencies.
In his speech, Minister Cadena said that based on the transition in the energy matrix that has occurred in Ecuador and the potential of the country, it is necessary the joint action with a body such as OLADE.
Similarly, Minister Cadena congratulated OLADE by the recent opening of the energy information systems, which have been disclosed to the general public. “I congratulate OLADE for disclosing its information systems. Public policies are not viable without information, “he said.
For his part, OLADE’s Executive Secretary was pleased with the visit and pointed out some issues in which the organization is currently working in order to foster mutual collaboration. Among these topics are: “The Energy Museum” which is planned to be developed within OLADE’s facilities to promote primary and secondary education around this subject and “generate a conscience in the rational and efficient use of energy” he commented. He also mentioned the progress achieved in the South-South cooperation, which includes among other things, the training project on renewable energy and energy efficiency in Galapagos. “The subject must be looked at with great attention to define the energy future in Galapagos,” said Blanco Bonilla.
Within a friendly environment, both entities presented their information systems, experience, and resources towards a work with common goals in the short and medium term.
Finally, there was an exchange of publications that have been generated by both institutions on energy issues, as a gift to the other party.
