The Third Workshop of the Caribbean Energy Statistics Capacity Building Project was held in Guyana

Capacity building in Guyana on issues related to the management of energy statistics, the development of new skills related to the sieLAC Energy Information System and the opportunities presented to promote energy planning are some of the topics discussed during the 3rd workshop on “Human Resource Management, Energy Statistics and Planning Awareness” which is being held in five countries of the region (Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, and Suriname). On this occasion it was held in Georgetown, Guyana on August 13, 2018.

This is the 3rd workshop being implemented within the framework of the “Capacity Building for Energy Statistics in the Caribbean”. It is a project funded by the World Bank. This workshop has previously been held in Jamaica and Suriname, the main objective of which is to improve the capacity to plan and manage energy statistics.

Through this project, Olade seeks to increase the quality and optimize the dissemination of energy information in the region to promote the availability of harmonized energy statistics, with international standards to ensure that the management of data in the sector becomes one of the cornerstones that promote sustainable and inclusive development of our countries.

In Georgetown, Guyana, the country’s Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson, participated in the event, stating that “the government of Guyana is committed to this project and is in line with its objectives of including renewable energies such as solar and wind energy in our energy matrix”.

The Minister of Public Infrastructure, referring to the participants, said “we will be building new capacities in energy information and planning. Your participation today represents your commitment to meeting these goals.

The event was closed by the CEO of the Guyana Energy Agency, Mahender Sharma, who gave an overview of the work day and highlighted the important points addressed in the session such as the relevance of having an energy information system and the benefits they represent for Guyana.
