The outputs of the consultancy :Analysis and assessment of investment options in electricity generation for the Republic of Colombia, were delivered

The Study of Analysis and Evaluation of the investment options in electricity generation for the Republic of Colombia was completed. This study was carried out by OLADE under the Cooperation Program with the Government of Canada for the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME) of the Republic of Colombia, with the collaboration of Camilo Quintero Montaño.

The study aims to analyze different scenarios of investment planning in generation, based on the expansion plans that UPME has developed, identifying possible financing schemes for the projects prioritized in the mentioned scenarios.
The process consisted of 3 phases, the first part consisted in analyzing the Generation – Transmission Reference Expansion Plan 2016 to 2030, where an economic assessment of the overall performance of the scenarios was carried out. In this part the 3 best Global performing scenarios were selected (priority scenarios). Subsequently, an assessment was made of the installation costs of each plant belonging to the prioritized scenarios.

The installed costs, costs of interconnection with the network and costs of reinforcements in the network were considered, in this way it was possible to elaborate a valued schedule of investments. Finally, a financial analysis of the prioritized expansion projects was elaborated, as well as a detail of the recommendations aimed to facilitate the realization of the considered works within the analysis performed.

The Final Report may be submitted for the consideration of other interested countries, prior to the authorization of the UPME for dissemination
