The energy situation of the region and the important participation of hydroelectric generation was discussed during the “2019 World Hydropower Congress”

The energy situation of the region, the important participation of hydroelectric generation in the electricity matrix and the energy prospective by 2040 were some of the topics exposed during the “2019 World Hydropower Congress” event to which the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) was invited, with the participation of the Director of Integration, Access and Energy Security, Medardo Cadena. This meeting held in Paris-France, from May 14 to 16, 2019.

In this dialogue, particular attention was given to the risks posed by climate change and the need to conduct vulnerability studies, such as those currently carried out by Olade. Likewise, through the presentation of the results of the prospective studies in the current policy scenario and compliance with the NDC’s, the need to increase efforts for the incorporation of renewable energies and the implementation of energy efficiency policies was evidenced.

Through this participation, Olade strengthens its links with the International Hydropower Association, opening new interaction spaces for the benefit of the region and the Member Countries of the Organization.
