OLADE presents progress on Energy Production at the XVI Meeting of PETROCARIBE

The Sixteenth (XVI) Ministerial Council of Petrocaribe was held in Caracas, Venezuela on Friday May 27, which he was held at the headquarters of Petroleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa SA).
The meeting was attended by 2 officials representing OLADE: Lennys Rivera, Director of Integration and Paola Carrera, Information Management and Training Coordinator; in order to present progress about the Petrocaribe Energy Balance for the period 2005-2013, in addition to communicating the usefulness that such balances have for the Member Countries of the agreement.
This Petrocaribe’s session was also attended by delegations from the 17 countries belonging to the Ministerial Council and the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, accompanied by the Minister of Popular Power for Oil and Mining, Eulogio Delpino, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Aristobulo Isturiz, and the Minister of Industry and Trade Miguel Perez Abad.
During the meeting, the officials of OLADE had the opportunity to inform the authorities of each Ministry on the operation of these balances to estimate the energy scenarios in each country; while requesting information to continue supplementing such Balances in the future.
OLADE also created the PetroCaribe Regional Energy System, a digital platform for estimating energy data which has also been presented to this body for analysis of the energy resources in each region.
“It is important to say that we spoke with the president of PDV Caribe and the Executive Secretary of Petrocaribe and they had mentioned the existence of the information system. When the interest on the matter was evidenced, it was offered training for the agency’s officials so, they can analyse the sector and even make a validation of the information. ” Paola Carrera made some remarks on the initiatives that arose during the meeting.
This Sixteenth Petrocaribe’s session was also the scenario for the presentation of various energy proposals from the 17 delegations attending the meeting.
During the meeting there were also assessed the progress reached by the body in the area of social productive development and diversification of the regional energy matrix, looking for the utilization of gas resources and continue to study the incorporation of alternative and renewable energy.
In 2005, 14 Caribbean nations signed the Energy Cooperation Agreement during the first Energy Meeting of Heads of State and Governments of the Caribbean on Petrocaribe. This mechanism has allowed new favourable, equitable and fair exchange policies among nations belonging to the agreement, to ensure efficient access to energy resources.
In its first 10 years, Petrocaribe has developed a series of initiatives to improve the quality of life of people living in Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Granada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam and Venezuela.
Through the economic zone of Petrocaribe, Venezuela will boost the export of products to countries of the regional bloc.
In a final comment on the general overview of meeting Mrs. Carrera stated: “The Energy Balance System was presented to the Ministers of Energy, the Executive Secretary, the President of PDV Caribe and the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. They publicly thanked OLADE and were very pleased by the cooperation we are providing and they committed themselves to rather deliver the missing data to complete the balance. Hence, we will continue to provide technical advice as we do with other international organizations”
