Olade participated in the technical tour of studies on implementation of distributed generation in the USA

OLADE was part of the coordination of a technical study tour organized by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory) of the United States of America and the Secretariat of Energy of Mexico (SENER), within the framework of the Campaign to “Accelerate the adoption of distributed generation (DG) in strategic regions “ that takes place as part of the activities of the CEM (Clean Energy Ministerial) and its 21st Century Power Partnership (21CPP) initiative.

CEM is a forum made up of 25 leading world countries plus the European Union, that focuses on promoting policies to incorporate technology, share lessons learned and create a transition towards a global economy based on clean energies.

This study tour was one of the first activities of the campaign and was attended by technicians from eight countries of the region who had the opportunity to learn about successful applications of policies, regulations, business models and technical analysis. They were also able to explore the most advanced research in the deployment of DG.

During the activities, the technicians interacted with experts from public service companies, system operators, regulatory and research organizations of the United States of America. This schedule was developed in a tour that included the states of Arizona, California and Colorado:

  • NREL (Golden, CO)
  • XCEL / Panasonic Battery Pilot Demonstration (Denver, CO)
  • Arizona State University (Phoenix, AZ)
  • Arizona Public Service APS (Phoenix, AZ)
  • APS Distribution Control Center (Phoenix, AZ)
  • California Public Utilities Commission (San Francisco, CA)
  • Pacific Gas & Electric Headquarters Office PG & E (San Francisco, CA)
  • California Independent System Operator (Folsom, CA)
  • Sacramento Municipal Utility District (Sacramento, CA)
  • California Energy Commission (Sacramento, CA)

OLADE is part of this initiative and has been carrying out joint actions with NREL and SENER of Mexico in coordination with its Member Countries.  The results of this tour will be included in a document that will also contain a regional view on the situation, opportunities and challenges of the DG. This document will be presented during the Energy Week to be held from December 10 to 14, 2018 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
