OLADE participated in the Inter-Secretariat Meeting of the Joint Organizations Data Initiative (JODI)

OLADE, jointly with organizations associated with the Joint Organization Data Initiative (JODI), met on 29 June 2017 at the Inter-Secretariat Meeting, which took place in New York at the United Nations Secretariat building.

OLADE’s participation in this initiative and its presence at the event helped to deepen the links between Latin America and the Caribbean with other International Organizations in the field of energy statistics.

The main objective of this meeting was to analyze and evaluate the progress of the road map drawn up with the JODI initiative, with the purpose of improving and strengthening it.

During the meeting it was presented the progress in the development of the JODI-Oil and JODI-Gas databases. Information is currently available on oil from more than 110 countries and gas information from 80 countries.   These figures represent approximately 90% of the world supply and demand of both oil and gas.   In this space, each of the International Organizations associated to JODI showed the data collection process progress. Regarding this work, the participants acknowledge that the task of compiling monthly data from so many countries is a complex and time-consuming task.

Another of the relevant topics discussed during this meeting was to analyze the feasibility of expanding cooperation with other Energy Agencies, as well as the possibility of improving the visibility of JODI.  Discussions were also held on progress in improving the transparency of coal data.

Finally, there were discussed the details of the organization of the next JODI conference to be held in the United Kingdom, London, October 10 and 11, 2017.

The attendees at the JODI Inter-Secretariat Meeting were representatives of: Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), European Statistics Office (EUROSTAT), United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), International Energy Forum (IEF) and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
