OLADE completes the technical assistance to the Government of Jamaica

Under the Cooperation Program with the Government of Canada, OLADE completed the technical assistance provided to the Government of Jamaica, which consisted on the development of a Plan for the Measurement, Reporting and Verification (MRV) for a NAMA proposal in renewable energy. The study was developed at the request of the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology (MSET) of the Government of Jamaica.

OLADE has supported the MSET of the Government of Jamaica to develop a NAMA proposal, whose objective is to increase the contribution of renewable energy sources in the energy generation matrix based on three phases: in the first phase the conceptual basis was established for the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG); during the second phase the technological options were determined and a detailed calculation of the reduction of GHG emissions was carried out; and in the third phase the MRV Plan for the proposed NAMA was elaborated.

The MRV Plan has been presented to the relevant stakeholders and comments and comments have been incorporated into the final document, which reflects the results obtained. The Plan also has three main objectives:
– Follow up on the implementation of the NAMA and the achievement of its proposed objectives.
– Comply with the obligations to report to the Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention, within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
– Contribute to the achievement of the country’s objectives under Jamaica’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the UNFCCC.
