OLADE as part of the 10th Latin American Symposium on Energy 2015 – Mexico

The Executive Secretary of OLADE - Dr. Fernando César Ferreira, participated in the panel on "Perspectives for the efficient use of energy in Latin America," with a speech about energy efficiency in Latin America and the Caribbean. This round table was held as part of the 10th Latin American Energy Symposium 2015 organized by the National Chamber of Electrical Manufacturers (Caname).

During his speech, the Executive Secretary explained that in Latin America and the Caribbean, most energy efficiency actions have been cyclical and reactive to the supply problems and high prices of energy or energy sources. However, there are structural efforts as the Sustainable Energy for All Initiative (SE4ALL) that seeks to ensure universal access to modern energy services, double the global rate of energy efficiency improvement and double the share of renewable energy efforts in the global energy mix in this region by 2030.   Likewise, the Secretary stressed on the high level of electrical losses observed in the Region, which if recovered, will allow the electrical system to include an additional equivalent of about 6 million people, if we were considering the Central American and Mexico Sub-region.
