18 delegations from the Olade Member Countries met at the LII Council of Experts and the V Extraordinary Meeting of Ministers

18 delegations from the Member Countries of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) met on June 12 and 13, 2019, at the LII Council of Experts and V Meeting of Extraordinary Ministers, held at the headquarters of the Organization in Quito-Ecuador.

In the LII Council of Experts of Olade, as the preparatory committee for the Meeting of Ministers, the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, announced the management’s progress of the current year’s first semester.
The Executive Secretary presented as one of the significant achievements in his management, the increase of the access of the users to the Energy Information Systems of Olade, since their release for open access, at the beginning of his term. “We have clear statistics of what type of public accesses; what shows us that the academic community, political decision makers and private agents are taking our information, which is useful and important for the region in terms of information on the energy sector”, said the Secretary.

In the Olade’s inter-institutional scope, the Executive Secretary informed that there is a new agreement with an Agency with which a database of signed contracts in the extractive industries in the field of hydrocarbons and mining is being worked on, which will serve as important backups for countries the moment they carry out this type of initiatives, such as exploratory rounds.

Through this tool, the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, explained that outlook information will be provided on what the countries of the region or outside of it are applying, with the purpose of providing sectoral data so that with an open tool, the country with its own technicians can access this information and have the opportunity to make all the comparisons and analyzes necessary to take good practices that are made in different parts of the region regarding the subject.

The Secretary also referred to the launching of the new Energy Information System for Brazil, which was carried out in March of this year; tool that is unified to handle all statistical information at the country’s energy level.
Regarding the integration and representativeness of Olade, he referred to the 6 new cooperation agreements signed: Federal Subsidy Agreement Republic of Germany (International Climate Initiative IKI); ARIAE-OLADE framework cooperation agreement; OLADE-UTE-EEQ tripartite cooperation agreement (SOUTH-SOUTH cooperation); ADA-OLADE PALCEE III and 2 EKLA-KAS Collaboration agreements.

He also referred to the constant collaboration that Olade is providing to the countries in each internal instance in which they need to show their progress at a political level.

Regarding the publications made by Olade, during the course of this year, he pointed out that eight publications of the Organization have been made and that at the moment the new version of the EnerLac Journal is under edition and that it will be published in the second semester of this year. To this the Secretary added that “with a regional scientific publication we provide a space for our researchers to expose their scientific production”.

Regarding the current communication direction of the Organization, the Secretary informed that a deeper positioning of the organization has been achieved and actions of significant impact are being carried out in order to reach not only the actors at the governmental level but also other levels such as academia and the private sector. This, through the dissemination of conjunctural information of the region to the Member Countries.

At the end of his speech the Executive Secretary of Olade, Alfonso Blanco, made mention of the Energy Week 2019, which will take place from November 11 to 14, in the city of Lima-Peru, within the framework of the World Exhibition of Renewable Energies ISA-PERÚ-LAC (Sun World 2019). This event is held jointly by Olade and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of Peru.
The Executive Secretary thanked the delegations representing the Member Countries for the effective call that was achieved for the realization of this V Extraordinary Meeting of Ministers and Council of Experts.

The Presidency of the V Extraordinary Meeting of Ministers was in charge of Peru under the representation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Peru in Ecuador, Vicente Rojas Escalante. The Meeting was attended by 18 Member Countries of Olade (Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad & Tobago and Uruguay).
