The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) will support the fulfillment of what is indicated in the Protocol of Intent on Technical Cooperation in the Energy field, which was signed on April 4, 2008 in Brasilia, Brazil between the Republic of Guatemala and the Federative Republic of Brazil.
The protocol of intention, signed in front of the President of Guatemala, Alvaro Colom, and the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula Da Silva, indicates the commitment of both countries to work together in mutual cooperation, so that energy development is achieved in rural electrification, energy production and consumption based on renewable energy resources and long-term energy planning.
Moreover, this protocol stipulates that both parties should establish cooperation mechanisms with public and private institutions, international bodies and non-governmental organizations to implement projects of technical cooperation for the aforementioned areas.
Accordingly, the Government of Guatemala requested OLADE to:
- Support establishing precise mechanisms of cooperation.
- Accompany and follow-up the protocol of intention
- Identify potential funds to finance projects
- Outline a plan or roadmap to operationalize the bilateral protocol
- Contribute to energy integration by advising and promoting cooperation and coordination among the Member Countries.
In order to promote this process, OLADE has committed to provide support directly from the Department of Integration of the Organization and from the Office OLADE-Central America located in Guatemala.
