THE FUTURE OF THE ENERGY SECTOR OF AFRICA AND LATIN AMERICA WILL BE DISCUSSED
The first AFROLAC conference took place in Algiers, Algeria, between February 12 and 13, 2008. Its central focus was: “Experiences of Latin America and Africa on Energy and Development”. There, it was agreed that the venue for the Second Conference of AFROLAC will be Mexico.
The results of this Conference were pointed out in the Algiers Declaration that considers development of human resources and the strengthening of capacities, promotion of investment, exchange of experiences and energy information.
Other issues that were covered in the capital of Algeria and that will be reviewed and evaluated in the second conference include: the promotion of investments and the creation of partnerships in the energy sector, the mobilization of financial resources for the development of energy projects, energy use, institutional cooperation and the setting-up of follow-up mechanisms.
Representatives of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), the African Energy Commission (AFREC) and several international bodies related to the energy field as well as around thirty African and Latin American Ministers will be present at the Second AFROLAC Conference. Simultaneously to the Conference, an exhibition of different participants in the energy industry will be organized.
