OLADE STRENGTHENS ITS ROLE IN CENTRAL AMERICA THROUGH SUB-REGIONALIZATION

On March 06, 2007, the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) inaugurated its first sub-regional office (OLADE-Central America) in Guatemala by means of which specific actions will be coordinated in the following Member Countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.
The opening of this office is part of the strategies of OLADE to reinforce the sub-regional energy integration processes in the Central American Sub-region by following-up its actions and projects on energy. In addition, OLADE will promote the use and maximum advantage of its products and services in each country of Central America.
The Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines of Guatemala, Mr. Romeo Rodríguez, the Director General of Energy, Mr. Victor Araujo, the Executive Secretary of OLADE, Dr. Carlos Florez Piedrahita and the Director of Integration of OLADE, Dr. Erick Cabrera were present at the inauguration ceremony.
During the ceremony, the Executive Secretary of OLADE thanked the support of the government of Guatemala and at the opening the sub-regional Office OLADE-Central American, he expressed his commitment to actively support the energy sector of the Countries of the Central American sub-region, especially in the efficient use of energy, alternative sources and energy integration.
Additionally, Mr. Jorge Asturias Ozaeta took office as the Coordinator of the Sub-regional office OLADE-Central America. He is a foreign affairs specialist who has been in charge of directive and advisory positions in both, the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the National Oil Commission of Guatemala.
During his intervention, Mr. Asturias Ozaeta expressed his commitment to work in the energy sector of Central American and said that this Sub-regional Office comes at the right moment to work on the development of projects in favour of each country of Central America.
The experience obtained from the Office OLADE-Central American will allow the Organization to evaluate future openings of offices in other sub-regions of Latin America and the Caribbean.
