THE DIRECTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVED THE EXECUTION OF OLADE'S TRIENNIAL WORK PLAN TOWARDS REGIONAL AND SUB-REGIONAL INTEGRATION
The Directive Committee of the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), made up of delegates from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela, approved in its 62nd meeting the triennial work plan that the Permanent Secretariat of OLADE will execute during 2008-2010.
According to the Executive Secretary of OLADE, Mr. Carlos Arturo Flórez Piedrahita, the triennial work plan is the “organization’s navigation chart during the coming three years” and will allow the Organization to meet the requirements of the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on regional and sub-regional energy integration.
Some of the goals of the triennial plan of OLADE are to promote schemas that permit to incentive the competitiveness of the member countries through the implementation of programs on energy efficiency and rational use of energy and alternative sources of energy in the region.
Likewise, it has been proposed to modernize the information systems so that they answer to the necessities of the Members Countries on energy planning and development.
Another goal of the triennial wok plan of OLADE is to coordinate actions with international organizations to canalize the funding needed to support regional and sub-regional projects on the energy sector.
OLADE has institutionalized four important events at the regional level as another mechanism towards regional and sub-regional integration.
- The Latin-American and the Caribbean Biofuels Seminar in Santo Domingo - Dominican Republic on May 26-27, 2008
- The Latin American and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Seminar in Venezuela on July 28-30, 2008
- The Regional Energy Integration Forum in Buenos Aires-Argentina on November 12-13, 2008, and
- The Latin American and Caribbean Carbon Forum in Santiago-Chile on October
According to the Executive Secretary of OLADE, these actions show the political willingness to carry out the regional and sub-regional energy integration of Latin America and the Caribbean.
