The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), Calgary University and the Canadian Agency for the International Development (ACDI), in coordination with the Vice-ministry of Electricity, Alternative Energy and Telecommunications of Bolivia perform a project in order to support the electrification rural project in that country.
After an analysis of rural electric sector in Bolivia, the community San Antonio of Lípez was choosen to develop three pilots energy projects.
The initiative’s objective is to execute a development plan through productive sustained projects in the supply of energy for the community, as well as the rational and responsible for use the renewable energy resources in order to improve the quality life in the rural areas in Bolivia.
The project proposes participative mechanisms for identify the community’s necessities related with the energy supply, like, the meeting “Multiparty Workshop Rural Electrification" in Cochabamba that will take place on March 16 and 17, 2006. The purpose of the meeting is to define the procedures and methodologies to incorporate social aspects in the electrification pilot project.
The event will meet leaders, municipal authorities, groups of women, ONGs, all of which will be involved in the sustainability subject.
We should point out that Bolivia is one of the four selected countries for this plan since in Guatemala, Paraguay and Haiti, they are also developing projects in rural electrification. |
