The first socialization activity of the project “Incidence of climate change in energy planning” begins in 11 beneficiary countries

The Latin American Energy Organization (Olade) with the support of the Spanish International Cooperation Agency (AECID), in the context of the ARAUCLIMA initiative, is executing the project: Incidence of climate change in energy planning: Screening for global assessment of the vulnerability and climatic risks of the energy system of Latin America and the Caribbean (Screen-LAC).

This project aims to increase the resilience to climate change of the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. This, through an analysis of the risks and vulnerability of infrastructure, and the determination of the changes that must be implemented in the planning and systems operation.

The beneficiary countries of this project are: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Granada, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

As part of the project activities, on July 14, 2020, a virtual workshop was held to inform the 11 Spanish-speaking countries, immersed in the project, the analytical scheme with which the project and the different expected results.

On behalf of Olade’s technical team, the progress state regarding information gathering required to undertake the study was presented. For its part, the consulting group, which is in charge of carrying out the analytical work of the project, as an example, presented a study of similar characteristics carried out in recent years, in the Basque Country in Spain.

At the end of the workshop, the representatives of the countries participating in the workshop had the opportunity to ask questions or comment on the above and committed to continue providing the required information for the different phases of the study.
