The SIER project (Regional Energy Information System), implemented by OLADE, with the non- reimbursable technical cooperation from the Interamerican Development Bank (IDB), and the expertise of specialists from the Ministries and Departments of Energy of the Member States, has entered the final implementation phase. This software tool, whose development is in charge of the consulting firm Abits, based in Bogota, Colombia, is ready to be launched and used in OLADE and its Member Countries to implement the system in the pilot phase.
In order to transfer computer system to OLADE’s mangers, officials of the Information Management and Training Coordination and Direction of Projects and Studies of the Permanent Secretariat of OLADE will participate in a technical workshop taught by specialists and instructors of Abits consulting firm. The workshop will reveal the features of the tools used for application development and database and to verify the operation of the system.
Furthermore, the workshop includes a representative of the Technical Committee of the project, Mr. Enrique Garzon of Mining and Energy Planning Unit of Colombia.
The workshop, held from April 30 to May 4, at the headquarters of the consulting Abits in Bogota, Colombia, has allowed the technicians to know new technology to be used to optimize and simplify the provision of country information to the SIEE Energy Economic Information System and SIEL Legal Energy Information System and incorporate new dynamic and interactive elements for the query of numeric and graphic results.
Once tests and stabilization of SIER is completed, its installation and operation will be developed in a pilot phase, both in the Permanent Secretariat of OLADE and in five countries that will implement their corresponding National Energy Information System.
The progress of SIER will be presented to the Technical Committee of the project - Delegates from the following Member Countries: Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Paraguay, Peru and Dominican Republic - at the next meeting to be held in Quito, Ecuador , on May 10 and 11.
