RURAL ELECTRIFICATION
This is part of the Sustainable Energy Program being developed jointly with the University of Calgary, with funding from the Canadian Government through the Canadian International Development Agency. This project has a 5-year duration starting in 2002, at which time it was approved, although operational activities commenced in 2004 in the Republic of Guatemala, after which 3 other beneficiary countries will join.
This project incorporates innovative concepts, such as strategy and policy proposals from final user perspectives, the inclusion of final stakeholders in the concept, design and operation of energy systems for remote areas, startup of sustainability schemes, seed fund for pilot project replicating, and direct involvement of women and indigenous peoples in energy projects.
